I had a few hours to kill on Sunday so I started - and for the most part finished - the preliminary version of my first WordPress theme, which is conveniently the first theme I’ve made for this site.
I think it’s a fairly clean design, and it was fun to get my hands dirty with the WordPress loop and play around with that. I haven’t checked, but it should validate fine as XHTML 1.0 Transitional with equally valid CSS. The header, titles, and footer should ideally show up as Baskerville, but Baskerville Old Face is close (which I believe comes with Windows) and if you have neither, Georgia looks pretty spiffy there, too. Everything else will either be Helvetica or Arial, since they’re tried and true.
The only image used so far is the RSS icon down at the bottom from feedicons.com, although I do have a header image in mind, as well as a few subtle graphics to spice things up a bit. All in good time (read: once I re-install Photoshop or do it at work).
I’m going to keep this as-is for now and work on a 1.5 version, so to speak, with a bit more functionality to navigate the blog (in all of its vastness, I know) and overall pizazz. In the meantime, let me know what you think.
Edit: I checked, and it validates as expected. Only one fix, involving the xml namespace. Fancy fancy, eh? It wasn’t too exciting, actually. Phooey.
